This course is designed for students who have taken foundational Linguistics courses. Key theoretical constructs and methodologies of the study of discourse will be introduced and discussed. Students who successfully complete this course will be able to
- be familiar with the a working knowledge of this area, including the brief history, theories, assumptions, terminologies in discourse analysis
- be capable of analyzing a specific discourse by applying the concepts learned
- be aware of cross-cultural and cross-linguistic similarities and differences in discourse
- be able to develop a small-scale study in discourse analysis by applying the methodological approaches learned.

2) Conversation Analysis
3) Genre Analysis
4) Discourse Grammar
