This course introduces key theoretical constructs and methodologies of the study of discourse, or language
in use. Students who successfully complete this course will be able to
- be familiar with the a working knowledge of this area, including the brief history, theories, assumptions, terminologies in discourse analysis
- be capable of analyzing a specific discourse by applying the concepts learned
- be aware of cross-cultural and cross-linguistic similarities and differences in discourse
- be able to develop a small-scale study in discourse analysis by applying the methodological approaches learned.
